Who we are...
Stratton Pre-School (formerly Stratton Playgroup) is based in Cirencester and was founded in 1972. We are an established and highly regarded local centre, run by a small team of dedicated and experienced staff.
We provide a friendly traditional playgroup for 3 and 4 year olds, open 9am-3pm Monday to Friday.
Based in the Stratton Scout Hut in the centre of Stratton, the building is bright and warm with disabled access, and we have an all weather garden and playhouse for the children to enjoy.
We currently have places available and can take children throughout the year. Please contact us to arrange a visit and chat to a member of the team.
The Pre-School is OFSTED registered and inspected - we are proud of our OFSTED report so invite you to read it via the link below.
We are also members of Gloucestershire Playgroup And Toddler Association (PATA) and have close links with local schools and community.
Stratton Pre-School adheres to Early Years Foundation Stage Framework EYFS and follow their curriculum which you can see at www.foundationyears.org.uk.

We will encourage children’s self esteem and confidence to achieve the very best foundations and skills to take them to the next stage in their learning journey.
We will consider each child as an individual and recognise and value the qualities they bring to Stratton Pre-School.
In our endeavours to fulfil this commitment to the children we will work fully with their parents/carers.
All Early Years Providers are required to work within the Early Years Foundation Stage framework to ensure children receive the best care and education possible.
The EYFS is based on four principles:
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers.
Learning and Development
Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in Early Years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
The curriculum is divided into 3 Prime Areas of Learning:

At Stratton Pre-School we will have activities to support and extend individual children’s development in all areas on a daily basis. These will change daily to allow for adult led and child initiated play.
We place a strong emphasis on developing the children’s confidence and self-esteem which allows them to explore and benefit from all we offer with the freedom to take risks and extend their learning and imagination in a safe and stimulating environment.
Topics and Themed Weeks
Each term we have a topic and we encourage the involvement of parents who can bring their knowledge and experience to help us. Examples are New Life, Traditional Tales, Weather, Senses and Animals.
We also have “Pop Up” themed weeks which arise from the children themselves. If they are interested in something during their play we will set up a week to develop this interest.
These are very flexible and quite diverse - some examples are Cooking Week, Road Safety Week, Building Week, French Week, Sports Week and Pets Week.
